One of FindLaw’s Own Goes Behind the Bench

We’re excited that one of FindLaw’s employees has been selected to join a panel of judges in a first-of-its-kind contest for law students interested in pursuing a career in public service.

Tanya Roth,  editor and team lead for the FindLaw legal blog network, will serve as an expert judge for a new Public Interest Fellow contest created by BARBRI, the bar exam preparation company, in cooperation with the nonprofit organization Save the Children.

“I was very pleased to be asked to join the panel of judges,” said Roth. “I am looking forward to seeing what the future of public interest law will look like and to help give these students a start in their chosen area of law.”

First prize: A one year, paid in-house counsel position at Save the Children’s U.S. headquarters in Westport, CT — and an invaluable head start toward a career in the nonprofit or public-interest sectors of the law. The winner, and 2nd– and 3rd-place finishers, also will receive a complimentary bar review course to help them complete their legal education.

The contest, which was developed by BARBRI as a public service and to raise awareness of alternate professional paths for young attorneys, is open to all third-year law students in the U.S. Applicants must prepare a short video of up to two minutes explaining why they want to work for Save the Children.

Tanya, a graduate of the University of California Hastings College of Law, will judge the videos across a number of categories and evaluate the student resumes and writing samples submitted by each applicant to help determine a winner.

Our congratulations to Tanya! If you are interested in learning more about the BARBRI Public Interest Fellow contest, please click here.
