Welcome to another post from our “Meet the FindLaw Team” series. “Meet the FindLaw Team” provides insight into the day-to-day lives of our colleagues. Today we feature FindLaw Copywriter Becky Spurbeck. Get to know Becky by reading about her experiences at FindLaw below.

What is your current title?
I am a Copywriter.

When did you join the FindLaw team and how did you get here?
I started at FindLaw as an intern in June 2008, the day after I graduated from college. After my internship, I was offered and accepted a fulltime writing position. Since then, I’ve written for multiple teams in Customer Operations, including the Xpress team, Blog team, Second Year Services, Video team and now Custom Content.

What interests you most about lawyer marketing or your functional area?
At the most basic level, I love writing, and I’m grateful to be in a position where I get to do that every day. I’m also inquisitive and enjoy learning, and this position satisfies those cravings. Although I’ve interviewed hundreds of lawyers, I still meet clients who have perspectives I haven’t heard before, fascinating stories or unexpected reasons for practicing law.

What activities does your work day typically involve?
Most of my time at FindLaw is spent doing three things — talking to clients, writing websites for our clients, or making edits. For most projects, I talk with clients during an initial consultation and collect information about the firm, their marketing goals, their clients and their practice areas.

From there, I write an initial draft, which is sent to the client for review. We schedule a follow-up call with the client and use that time to discuss the client’s reaction to the content. I make any necessary edits to the content and then repeat the process with the next client.

What are your interests outside of FindLaw?
I’m passionate about living a healthy, balanced life with my husband and puppy — a life that is filled with reading, writing and all types of fitness. I’m currently training for 50- and 100-mile mountain bike races and am in the middle of a sports memoir, two neurology/psychology books and a theology book.
